What’s Up Wednesday #3


October has blown in like a whirlwind and hasn’t stopped!  Anyone else feel like that? Colder weather is creeping up on us here in Michigan too.  My garden is still eeking out a few things though!  And my crazy chickens are still each laying one egg a day!  I never dreamed I’d enjoy having chickens as much as I do.  They crack me up watching them chase around bugs and trampling behind me while walking to get them water.


On Sunday, the news segment I taped last week aired!  My hope has always been to help show people how to live a healthier life.  Not just with food but all aspects of life.  If one day I can look back and see that I have had a positive impact on even one person then every ounce of time I put into this blog, my Instagram feed, and everything else will all be worth it.  Too many people in this world are chronically ill, diseased, and left with a very poor quality of life.  That is heartbreaking because it shouldn’t be like that.

I listened to a podcast today by Mike Mutzel.  His podcast is called High Intensity Health Radio and he also puts the interviews on Youtube.  Every single one of them is worth watching or listening to.  This particular podcast his guest, Dr. Kathryn Retzler struck a chord with me when she said it is selfish of us as individuals to remain unhealthy or to not be proactive about our aging.  She went on to explain that if we don’t take care of our bodies now then one day, sooner than we expect, we will become the burden of our children.  Let that thought sink in for a minute.  This is happening at an earlier age than ever before too.  So we are now requiring more care at earlier ages.  I don’t want to be 60 years old and depend on my children to take care of me.  Heck, I don’t want to be 40 and have that happen!   I would hope that at 60, 70, 80 and even 90 I can still not only be around but living a vibrant life.  I never want to be a burden to my children.  I didn’t have children to make them take care of me.  It was a bold but true statement she made and I will remember it forever.


I talked on the news segment about being your own health advocate and not just taking blind faith in your doctor that they know best.  Doctors are amazing and save lives but it is YOUR responsibility to be in charge of your health, not theirs!  You should be a team working together, and if there is something that you’re not comfortable with then you need to speak up.  If your doctor still doesn’t listen to your concerns then find a new doctor that does.  This isn’t your cable we’re talking about, it is your life!  With that being said,  I went to a new patient appointment with a new doctor this week and I left ELATED!  He is everything I have been looking for in a doctor.  My hopes are high that he can help me resolve the last few things I feel I needed help with to be my healthiest.  His mentality is to try everything natural first and exhaust all those avenues before prescribing meds.  Let me tell you, talking to a MD that is up on new research, takes 2 hours to talk to you, and actually uses labs and tests like 23&me, Cryex labs, Genova and others that functional med doctors use is like finding the holy grail of doctors.  I had a ton of blood drawn and anxiously await my appointment in a month to go over the results.
